Flickr member flypigs has made this series of six cover mock-ups for the rumored forthcoming Steve Jobs autobiography. They're all pretty cool, and if you look at the notes for each photo you'll see that flypigs has put a little research into it. For Steve Jobs: The Man Who Makes It A Different Place, flypigs stated: "After searching "Walter Isaacson" on Amazon.com, you will find almost all his books share the same layout of cover design -- a big title on the top, a highly visible "Walter Isaacson" on the bottom, and a huge famous face in the center."

Personally, my favorite is Connecting The Dots. It uses a photograph by Diana Walker called STEVE JOBS AT HOME IN 1982. Steve Jobs said of the photo: "This was a very typical time. I was single. All you needed was a cup of tea, a light, and your stereo, you know, and that's what I had." I love the layout of the title and the fact that flypigs took the title from Steve Jobs' 2005 Commencement address at Stanford University.

Magic Room: Airbox ist zur Zeit kostenlos im AppStore erhältlich.

Wie unter anderem Early Adopter und einige weitere Quellen berichten, ist bei Twitter derzeit eine Phishing Attacke via Direct Message im Gang. Die DM enthält die Worte “lol this is you” und einen Link zu “bzpharma”. Klickt man auf den Link und gibt seine Twitter Login-Daten ein, kann im schlimmsten Fall seinen Account verlieren und für die Weiterverbreitung der Phishing Attacke sorgen.

Also: NICHT KLICKEN!

Update: gerade via Twitter informiert worden, dass die DM auch bereits an deutsche Accounts rausgeht!

Hier ein Tutorial wie ihr Voice Control (eigentlich nur für iPod Touch 3g/ iPhone 3Gs)  auch unter den anderen Geräten(Außer iPod Touch 1g) nutzen könnt.

• Ein Mikrophone das iPod/iPhone Komatibel ist
• Firmware 3.0 und höher!

Tutorial

• Ladet euch die Voice-Control-App herunter.

• Startet das (s)FTP Programm (Im meinem Fall FileZilla). Euer Gerät muss sich per W-Lan im selben Netzwerk befinden. Guckt bei SB-Settings eure IP Adresse nach und tragt sie bei FileZilla ein(Siehe Bild). Der Username ist “root”, das Passwort (wenn ihr es nicht geändert habt) “alpine” und der Port muss “22″ sein.  Es kann sein das ihr mehrmals auf Verbinden klicken müsst bis es klappt. Anschließend sollte eine Meldung auftauchen, hier klickt ihr einfach auf “OK”.

• Nun ladet ihr die “Voice Control.app” auf euer iDevice in den Ordner “DeinGerät/Applications”

• Nach dem kopieren müsst ihr noch die Dateiberechtigungen ändern. Dazu geht ihr wieder in den “Applications” Ordern. Dort klickt ihr mit rechter Maustaste auf die “Voice Control.app” und wählt “Dateiberechtigungen” aus. Dort tragt ihr bei dem “Mumerischer Wert” die Ziffern 0755 ein und macht einen Haken bei “Unterverzeichnisse einbeziehen” – “Auf alle Dateien und Verzeichnisse anwenden”.

• Ladet euch “Activator” aus Cydia herunter.

• Reebotet euer iPhone/iPhone

• Geht in die Settings- Wählt dort nun: Activator – Anytime – Home Button ;Double Press – Voice Control aus.

• Drückt doppelt auf die HomeTaste (klickt auf Voice…). Nun könnt ihr den iDevice mit eurer Stimme Befehle geben(Klappt noch nicht immer ganz so gut, aber zum rumspielen reicht es allemal!)

Noch ein Tipp bei der Aussprache. Ihr müsst vor allem bei Liedernamen und Arstists darauf achten das ihr sie “Deutsch” aussprecht. So müsstet ihr z.B. Scooter (Scuuta) wirklich auch wie Scooter (Skooter)Aussprechen. Oder Kid Kudi (Kit Köhdi) müsstet ihr so aussprechen Kid Kudi(Kit Kuudi) ;D

Macworld is reporting that Steve Jobs is one of the recipients of the Jim Henson Celebration Honor - one of four Jim Henson Honors. Established in 2005, the awards program acknowledges organizations, individuals, or products that reflect the core values and philosophy of Jim Henson and the company he founded. Criteria used in the evaluation process include: a commitment to creativity, innovative applications of art and technology, and inspiration of others.

Four people are honored every year. In addition to Steve Jobs, this year's other honorees are:

• The Jim Henson Community Honor - 826 National, a tutoring, writing, and publishing organization
• The Jim Henson Creativity Honor - Neill Blomkamp, director of the movie "District 9"
• The Jim Henson Technology Honor - YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the world's first collaborative orchestra

From the official press release [PDF link], The Jim Henson Company stated that the Celebration Honor "goes to an individual, organization or product that makes the world a better place by inspiring people to celebrate life. A co-founder of Apple, Jobs has led the company and the creation of its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, iPod media player, iTunes media store and Mac computers."

CEO Lisa Henson went on to say, "Steve Jobs has continuously broken new ground with technologies that allow existing media in all forms to be easily enjoyed and also by providing fantastic tools for artists, photographers, musicians and filmmakers of all skill levels."

Jim Henson was one of the individuals featured in Apple's 1997 Think Different Campaign that many believe was central in rebuilding Apple's image in the minds of computer users.

Es ist unglaublich, wie schnell doch die Zeit vergeht. Vor genau einem Jahr wurde der erste Grundstein, wenn auch unbewusst, für áppletrend und alle darauf folgenden Dienste und Portale gelegt. Mit wenig Aufwand wurde damals die Webseite mit Apples iWeb zusammengeschustert und ins Web gestellt. Unsere Leserzahlen waren damals genau so bescheiden wie die ganze Seite an sich.

Entsprechend mit Freude betrachten wir die Timeline und die Veränderungen, die áppletrend in nur einem Jahr durchgemacht hat. Vom einfachen Blog, der wenig mit einem Magazin zutun hatte, führte der Weg über einen “1-Autoren-Blog”, bis hin zu einem Team mit 16 Mitgliedern. In dieser Zeit hat sich ein fester Besucherstamm entwickelt. Die Zahlen stiegen monatlich und steigen weiterhin.

Mit unseren Lesern haben wir insgesamt drei Redesigns erlebt, der vierte und größte Relaunch erwartet uns noch dieses Jahr. Wir danken Euch von ganzem Herzen für die Treue und das positive Feedback in der Vergangenheit. Wir bedanken uns für die vielen, vielen Leser, die täglich unser Portal besuchen. Wir bedanken uns bei den Apple-Fans, die unsere Live-Ticker zu Tausenden mitverfolgen und unsere Dienstleistungen in Anspruch nehmen.

Ich als Geschäftsführer bedanke mich ebenfalls ganz herzlich bei allen Mitgliedern des Teams, für die tatkräftige Unterstützung und die kreative Mitarbeit. Ein besonderer Dank gilt Tobias Totzke, der sich im November letzten Jahres für avtrend entschied und wenige Zeit später die Projektführung übernahm. Unter ihm wurden neue Teammitglieder gefunden und ein Redesign durchgeführt.

Auch maßgeblich an vielen Entscheidungen und für die Einführung der áppletrend Group sowie die Idee zur Xsoft Solution Group beteiligt war Timo Schusser. Ohne ihn hätten wir so manchen Partner und so manche Idee nicht. Er verwaltet unsere Finanzen und kümmert sich um weitere Dinge, die sich hier nachlesen lassen. Weiterhin auf gute Zusammenarbeit!

Wir hoffen, dass wir auch in Zukunft die guten Beziehungen zu unseren Partnern aufrechterhalten können, die Kooperationen stärken und das Optimale für unsere Leser, also Euch, herausholen können.

Nicht alles lief in der Vergangenheit optimal und rund. Deswegen arbeiten wir stetig an der Verbesserung, an der Optimierung unserer Dienste und basteln im Hintergrund an Erweiterungen für áppletrend.

Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Ein ganzes Jahr haben wir geschafft, ein weiteres Jahr werden wir ebenfalls hinter uns bringen und mit Sicherheit lesen wir uns in 6 Jahren immer noch.

First, our giveaway of a limited edition set of Beatles MusicSkins required that readers leave a comment telling us who their favorite Beatle was. This, of course, brought up some fun memories and commentary from kathycorby: "Bet I'm one of the few who saw the Beatles in person, Milwaukee, 1963 (I think), first US tour. Of course, by the time I stood near the back of the auditorium screaming and weeping, I already knew it was Paul, Paul, just forever Paul....."
To the post about Celebrity Cruises adding an "Apple Store" to the new Celebrity Eclipse, quinton provided some nice input about other cruise lines that are using Macs: "Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have already been using Macs aboard their ships for years. Currently the first ship in the Solstice class (the Celebrity Solstice) has Mac Minis running a modified custom media center OS in every stateroom on the ship (Eclipse is Solstice class). Royal Caribbean has done the same. I have personally used the services and they work great. A bit like Front Row but even cooler. Over a hundred new release movies are free to watch on demand (like iTunes.) In addition, you can order room service, view your account, and track the ships location on a map. What I wonder is, is Apple working with Celebrity to integrate these systems and design the software, or is Celebrity doing this on their own. The former seems much more likely. The ships backbone for the equipment is run on Xserves as well."

Navigation app / service provider TeleNav told TUAW about how GPS and search services apparently helped a lot of guys on Valentine's Day. For TUAW reader Phil H., an iPhone really kept him out of trouble: "Oh my god did my iPhone save the day here. First it helped me find a show to go to, buy tickets on the go. Get the showtimes. Get me directions to the theater so I got there just as the show was starting. Find a parking garage which is impossible to do in downtown Philadelphia. Then I used it to get directions to get from the garage to the theater. Used it as a light to see the playbill :) Then found directions to the Hard Rock cafe which was like 5 blocks away. After [we were] done [with] dinner, used it to hail a cab so I didn't have to walk at midnight and get mugged. Then used it to get directions on how to get out of the maze of downtown streets. Didn't really realize how much it helped until now. Thank god I have it!"

Auntie TUAW always helps out her nephews and nieces, and David F. was nice enough to respond to her post about buying a 3G iPad vs. the Wi-Fi model: "...I'm really glad I went the iPhone route because I was thinking about a touch. You would be surprised at just how handy 3G access is. Especially when it is in your pocket every minute of the day.

Now iPad is certainly a different animal that will result in profoundly different usage patterns. Frankly I suspect that is why Apple pushed for the no contract plans as pay as you go is likely to be a better arraingement for many. The common example being someone taking off on a trip and buying a months 3G coverage.

As a side note one place I see iPad winning big is with travelers, especially once the better GPS mapping apps hit. Vacationers are only the tip of the iceberg here, truck drivers and other on the road professionals will be quick adopters. Air crews would be in that list too. All of these people would need 3G access.

Apple certainly has a winner in iPad but I suspect it will win in ways that aren't expected by the general Mac Community."

Eine meiner absoluten Favoriten zur Zeit ist Owl City. Und gerade gesehen gibt es in iTunes nun die „Deluxe Version“ des neuesten Albums Ocean eyes. Diese beeinhaltet ganze sieben Zusatztitel, darunter Hits wie Hot Air Balloon oder Strawberry Avalanche.

Der Jourist Verlag stellt 15 elektronische Nachschlagewerke für iPhone und iPod touch vor. Jedes Lexikon bietet über 1.000 Einträge aus aller Welt zu einem attraktiven Thema aus Bereichen wie Autos, Nutzfahrzeuge, Transport und Verkehr, Tiere oder Uniformen. Die “Nachschlage”-Apps sind reich bebildert und dank lokaler Datenspeicherung unabhängig von einer aktiven Verbindung zum Internet. Alle Themenlexika verfügen über eine schnelle Suchfunktion, einfache Filter zur optimalen Auswahl der gezeigten Daten sowie nützliche Listen wie Favoriten und zuletzt betrachtete Einträge.

Beispielsweise das Lexikon der Automobile präsentiert nicht nur edle Klassiker, sondern auch die erfolgreichsten Massenprodukte. Es dokumentiert den Fortschritt im Automobilbau mit technischen Daten, Hintergrundinformationen und aussagekräftigen Fotos. Die Apps kosten jeweils 4,99 Euro. Vor dem Kauf können kostenlosen Lite-Versionen getestet werden, die auf lediglich 30 Einträge abgespeckt wurden. Diese werden zu allen 15 Lexika angeboten.

Ende Oktober des vergangenen Jahres wurde bekannt, dass Nokia Apple wegen mehrfacher Patentverletzung verklagt.
Seitdem ist einiges geschehen:
Mitte Dezember wartete Apple mit einer Gegenklage auf, weil Nokia seinerseits 13 Patente verletze.
Kurz darauf reichte Nokia eine zweite Klage ein, in der es um 7 zusätzliche Patentverletzungen durch Apple ging. Fast zeitgleich forderten die Finnen dann bei der US-Handelskommission ITC einen sofortigen Verkaufsstopp für iPhones, iPods und Macbooks, was Apple dann wiederum dazu veranlasste, einen Antrag auf Importstopp von Nokia-Handies zu stellen.

Das ITC bestätigte Ende Jänner, dass man sich die Vorwürfe von Nokia genauer ansehen werde. Wie MacRumors jetzt berichtet, werden auch die mutmaßlichen Patentverletzungen Nokias jetzt untersucht.
Ein Resultat der Untersuchungen gibt es frühestens in einem Jahr. Allgemein wird aber damit gerechnet, dass es durch den Druck der laufenden Verfahren früher oder später eine außergerichtliche Einigung geben wird.

Neue Gerüchte deuten darauf hin, dass es die Apple iPad 3G Version nur inkl. Vertrag exklusiv über die Deutsche Telekom geben wird. Auch halten sich viele Zubehörhersteller mit Ihren iPad Zubehörpreisen noch zurück, angeblich hat auch hier Apple seine Finger im Spiel. Nachdem das Apple Tablet namens iPad (Apple Store Partnerlink) Ende Januar mit der Angabe "Erhältlich ab Ende März" (zumindestens gilt dies für das Wi-Fi Modell, das Wi-Fi 3G Modell ab April) vorgestellt wurde und sich der Februar bereits langsam dem Ende nähert, fragen wir uns, ab wann Vorbestellungen für die Geräte möglich sind.

Zudem ist noch immer offen, zu welchem Preis die Geräte in Deutschland angeboten werden. Wie die Webseite Appadvice von einer zuverlässigen Quellen erfahren haben will, soll Apple ab nächste Woche Vorbestellungen für das iPad annehmen.

Bei Safari 4 ist das Symbol zum Hinzufügen von Lesezeichen links in der Adresszeile zu finden. Möchten Sie dieses aber – wie bisher gewohnt – wieder in der Symbolleiste unterbringen, dann gehen Sie folgendermaßen vor: Öffnen Sie in Safari 4 das Menü Darstellung und wählen Sie dort den Befehl

Noch sind es ein paar Wochen / Monate bis wir das kommende iPhone erwarten dürften. Nicht nur bei Apple dürften die Vorbereitungen bereits jetzt schon auf Hochtouren laufen auch die Medien spekulieren schon über Funktionen, die das iPhone 4G mit bringen könnte. Unter anderem gibt es Hinweise auf ein OLED Display, eine 720p Videoauflösung und eine Frontkamera.

Letzteres bekommt nun neuen Zündstoff. Wie die Webseite 9to5mac berichtet, habe man Hinweise auf eine Video-Chat Funktion in kommenden iPhones gefunden.
Grund zu der Annahme geben mehrere Icons im iPhone SDK, die das Internetportal gefunden hat. So lautet die Bezeichnung eines Icons z.B. "DeclineOrEndVideo.....png". Ob das allerdings für ein iPhone 4G mit Video-Chat Funktion ausreicht ist fraglich, viele Apple Fans würde es sicherlich freuen.

Für den März warten iPhone-Entwickler gespannt auf ein fast schon traditionelles Event: In den vergangenen 2 Jahren präsentierte Apple im März die neueste Version des iPhone-Betriebssystems.

Ein aktueller Artikel von BusinessInsider.com widmet sich den Hoffnungen der Entwickler und der Frage, was das nächste große Firmware-Update unbedingt beinhalten sollte.

Der häufigste “Feature Request” von Entwicklern: Multitasking für alle iPhone Apps – also die Möglichkeit, auch Apps von Drittanbietern im Hintergrund laufen zu lassen. Andere Wünsche reichen vom erweiterten Lockscreen und überarbeiteten Push-Notifications, über den iBookStore bis hin zu den Möglichkeiten, verschiedene Apps miteinander kommunizieren zu lassen.

Heute ist das sonst 79 Cent günstige Spiel sogar Gratis zu haben. In sieben verschiedenen Spielmodi müsst ihr verschiedene Aufgaben erfüllen. Entweder ein Turm in die Höhe bauen, einfach nur ein stabiles Konstrukt [...]

Die Spiele Schmiede “Dicework Games” aus Finnland hat ein neues rundenbasiertes RPG in der Entwicklung, Rimelands: Hammer of Thor.

Viel ist zu dem Spiel noch nicht bekannt, außer dass es in eine Schneeumgebung spielt und rundenbasiert ist.
Aber die Entwickler haben bereits einen Gameplay Screenshot und drei Artworks, welche interessierten Spielern die Hintergrund Geschichte näherbringen sollen.

Der nun mehr als 5 Monate andauernde Patentstreit zwischen Nokia und Apple geht in die nächste Runde. So hat Nokia Apple im Oktober vorgeworfen gegen mehrere Patente verstoßen zu haben.

Apple reichte Mitte Dezember eine Gegenklage ein, dass Nokia seinerseits gegen 13 Patente verstoßen hat.

Kurz darauf reagierte Nokia mit einer weiteren Anklage in der sie Apple vorwerfen gegen weitere 7 Patente Nokia’s verstoßen zu haben. Zeitgleich reichte Nokia auch noch einen Antrag bei der US-Handelskommission ITC ein, in dem sie einen sofortigen Verkaufsstopp für iPhones, iPods und Macbooks fordern.

Dies veranlasste Apple bei der gleichen Handelskommission ein Importstopp von Nokia-Handys zu fordern.

Die ITC bestätigte Ende Januar das man sich dir Vorwürfe beider Parteien anschauen wird, “mit einem Ergebnis könne man aber frühestens in einem Jahr rechnen”, so die ITC.

Aufgrund des Drucks beider Parteien können wir aber mit einer außergerichtlichen Einigung rechnen, da ein Verkaufs- und Importstopp das Ende von Nokia und Apple bedeuten würde.

Zu dem Spiel “Crazy Goblins: World War II” von MF3D Dev wurden nun einige Screenshots sowie ein Video veröffentlicht

Meiner Meinung nach hat das Spiel eine unglaublich gute Grafik. Da die Entwickler nebenbei auch noch an einem anderen Projekt arbeiten, können sie ihre Arbeit an dieserm Spiel erst nächste Woche wieder aufnehmen.

Zu den Screenshots(anscheinend wurden die Screenshots bis eben nicht angezeigt, ich hoffe ihr könnt sie jetzt alle sehen):

Sicher kennt ihr noch diese Plastiksessel aus dem letzten Jahrzehnt, in denen man sein Mobiltelefon drapieren konnte. War albern, hatte trotzdem fast jeder. Doch Plastik ist dem iPhone-Besitzer längst nicht gut genug. Das harte Material könnte ja dem zarten Gewand des liebsten Gadgets einen Schaden zufügen. Wie 9to5Mac in Bezug auf AppAdvice in einem Artikel berichtet, soll schon nächste Woche die “Pre-Ordner”-Phase des iPad Wi-Fi beginnen. Ein Traum wird wahr, zumindest für Josh und Ting Li, die sich das “iDo”-Wort in einem Apple Store gaben – unerlaubterweise. Dennoch dürfte das keinem Mitarbeiter gestört haben, schließlich wurde mit der Hochzeit auch genug zahlende Kundschaft angezogen.

Skurril: Hochzeit im Apple Store

Man muss schon einen Apple-Wahn haben, um sich das zu trauen, was Josh und Ting Li in einem nahegelegenen Apple Store getan haben. Diese heirateten unerlaubterweise in einem Apple Store, die Ringe wurden statt von einem Hund auf einem iPod Touch der ersten Generation übergeben. Mit einem zärtlichen “iDo” schworen sie sich, den Ehepartner zu lieben und zu ehren, bis sie der Tod scheidet.

Dass die Mitarbeiter nichts gegen die Hochzeit im Apple Store hatten, beweist ein Tweet eines Mitarbeiters, der scheinbar wieder gelöscht wurde. Denn durch diesen wurde die Aktion erst bekannt.

Schüler zu Hause überwachen. 1800 Schüler bekamen MacBooks, die mit Überwachungssoftware ausgestattet waren. Aufgefallen ist das, als ein Schüler einen Verweis wegen "ungebührlichen Verhaltens in seiner Wohnung" bekam. Das neuste Spiel aus dem Hause “Revolution Software Limited” nennt sich Baphomets Fluch – The Director’s Cut. “Broken Sword” wurde sehr gut für das iPhone, iPod touch und das baldige iPad umgesetzt. Zudem hat man mit Franziska Pigulla und Alexander Schottky eine tolle Synchronisation welche die deutsche Version bereichert statt sie wie bei anderen Spielen zu einer Qual zu machen. Man sollte jedoch noch ein wenig Speicher frei haben auf seinem iDevice, da der Download rund 360MB groß ist. Ein wirklich gutes Game, welches die Zeit gut vertreibt und einen an sein iDevice fesselt. Paris im Herbst … ein brutaler Mord im Palais Royale. Es ist kalt draußen und man trägt gewöhlich Handschuhe. Doch jetzt ruft auch jemand an und ihr wollt den Anruf annehmen. Und das widerum geht nicht, denn das iPhone / der iPod Touch kann man nicht mit Handschuhen etc. bedienen. Doch da gibt es jetzt eine Lösung: Vor einigen Wochen haben wir euch bereits das hier vorgestellt. Aber es geht auch einfacher: Mit einer handelsüblichen Bockwurst. MyPodApps, Entwickler von iPhone Explorer, hat mit Phone Disk eine neue Mac-Applikation herausgebracht, mit der das iPhone und der iPod Touch als eigene Festplatte ins Mac OS X Dateisystem eingebunden werden können.

Damit erscheinen iPhone und iPod Touch jetzt ganz normal im Finder, und man hat Zugriff auf das Nutzer-Verzeichnis am Gerät (z.B. für geschossene Fotos). Mit einem Jailbreak erhält man zusätzlich Zugriff auf alle Ordner im Dateisystem.

Phone Disk (etwas hinunterscrollen bis zu den News) gibt es vorerst gratis: Mit dem kostenlosen Registrationscode kann man in den nächsten 6 Monaten seine Applikation freischalten und kann die App damit zeitlich unbegrenzt nutzen.

Wie sortiert ihr eure RSS-Feeds?

Um ehrlich zu sein hatte ich das bis dato nie richtig hinterfragt – obwohl gerade bei zunehmender Feed-Anzahl eine Struktur sicherlich Arbeit abnehmen kann. Im weiteren Beitrag werfe ich mal mein Ergebnis der Diskussion in den Raum – und spekuliere darauf das andere das Thema aufnehmen.

Der rein thematische Ansatz

Innerhalb den letzten Jahren waren meine Feeds rein thematisch sortiert, beispielhaft gab es damit z.b. die Sammelgruppen

• me
• mac
• windows
• linux
• politik
• images
• et cetera

Der eine damit verbundene Vorteil ist klar offensichtlich – die Einsortierung neuer Feeds ist relativ simpel sofern ein gemeinsamer Nenner gefunden wird.

Thematik meets Relevanz

Obiger Ansatz hatte in den letzten Jahren für mich aber auch einen signifikanten Nachteil – der komplett fehlende Einbezug des Stichwortes Relevanz. So endete ich jeden Tag mit einer hohen Anzahl nicht gelesender Feeds und der Frage ob ich nicht was für mich wichtiges verpasst habe. In Folge musste also eine kleine Umstrukturierung passieren – et voila

• A-List (wichtig)
• B-List (ggf interessant)
• C-List (lesbar)
• Friends (mir wichtig)
• Others (Sammelbecken)
• Test (für neuen Kram)

Die Grundidee stammt aus diesem Post – wenngleich ich sie für mich leicht angepasst habe. Bedeutet im Kern dass die erste Gruppenebene die Relevanz definiert – innerhalb dessen wird dann mit der alten Themensortierung weitergemacht. Wirkt im ersten Moment für den einen oder anderen wohl nach Überorganisation – aber so funktioniert mein Hirn scheinbar. Bis dato wirkt der neue Ansatz deutlich vorteilhafter für mich …. sind die Bereiche A-List und Friends mal erledigt – kann ich eigentlich frohen Mutes den Reader schließen … oder einfach nach Lust und Laune noch etwas im für mich “un-relevanteren” Bereich blättern.

Wie handhabt ihr das Thema RSS-Sortierung? Grafikidee via

Es ist wieder Sonntag, Zeit auf die Apple Ereignisse der abgelaufenen Woche zurück zu blicken. Neben vielen kleinen Berichten rund um Apple, standen erneut das iPhone 4G, das iPad und das MacBook Pro im Mittelpunkt. Erst heute morgen sind neue Hinweise zu einer möglichen Video-Chat Funktionen im kommenden iPhone aufgetaucht.

Im iPhone SDK wurden neben Icons, die auf diese Funktion hinweisen, auch String-Zeilen im SDK mit einem Hinweis auf die Video-Chat gefunden. Zudem gab es Hinweise, dass Apple ein OLED Display im iPhone 4G einsetzen könnte. Je näher die Veröffentlichung des Apple Tablet iPad (Apple Store Partnerlink) rückt, umso mehr Details und neue Hinweise kommen ans Tageslicht.
Nach derzeitigem Stand will Apple im iBook Store Bücher zum Preis zwischen 12,99 US$ und 14,99 US$ anbieten. Gleichzeitig möchte das Unternehmen Bestseller zum Preis von 9,99 US$ verkaufen. Zudem machen neue Screenshots vom iPad Lust auf mehr. Ab wann wird sich das Tablet endlich bestellen lassen?

Das iPad ist noch lange nicht in den Verkaufregalen angekommen und hat doch schon mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommen als die meisten Multmediaprodukte andere Hersteller (Kindle, Palm Pre etc.). Auf die Frage, ob man ein iPhone 4G oder ein iPad kaufen will, stimmten 75 Prozent für das iPhone und lediglich 22 Prozent für das iPad (der Rest war unentschlossen).

Jetzt sind bei 9to5mac ein paar Interessanten Screenshots und Entdeckungen aufgetaucht, die doch Lust auf das iPad machen (und nicht nur auf das iPad Nano). Die Entdeckungen wurden im iPhone SDK 3.2 gemacht und auf einigen Screenshots aufgezeigt. Dabei sieht man, dass das Menü sehr dem des iPhones ähnelt. Ein interessanter Punkt ist aber dazu gekommen: Filesharing. Damit soll man Dateien zwischen iPad und Computer austauschen können.

Des Weiteren hat man herausgefunden, das man Youtube-Videos auf dem iPad in HTML5 abspielen kann. Ob das bedeutet, dass man auch andere Videos, die in HTML5 angebunden sind, schauen kann, weiß man aber noch nicht (außerdem macht das ja bisher auch kaum jemand). Wir wissen ja bereits, wie der Safari auf dem iPad aussieht.

Außerdem kann man laut 9to5mac einen prozentualen Batteriestatus anzeigen lassen (wow, was für ein krasses Feature )

Für mich als Sinologie-Student durchaus interessant ist, dass es eine Handschriften-Funktion für Chinesische Schriftzeichen geben soll. Es gibt bereits für das iPhone einige gute Lernprogramme für chinesische Schriftzeichen (und auch für japanische) aber mit dieser neuen Funktion wäre das sicher noch um einiges einfacher. Auch der größere Bildschirm erleichtert die Eingabe von Schriftzeichen per Finger, dafür ist das iPhone zu klein oder meine Finger zu dick

Wer kennt es nicht: draußen ist es bitterkalt, die Finger sind warm verpackt und plötzlich kommt ein Anruf herein. Ohne die Handschuhe auszuziehen ist es nicht möglich Eingaben auf dem Diplay zu tätigen. Wie die Kollegen von Focus Online herausgefunden haben, schafft eine handelsübliche Wiener Wurst Abhilfe. Das hat er noch gebraucht, der App Store. Ein richtiges Snowboard Game. Letztendlich kam es doch noch zur richtigen Zeit, zu Beginn der olympischen Winterspiele. Der Titel wurde von X2 Games entwickelt, wie auch der bislang meiner Meinung nach beste Fußballsimulator fürs iPhone OS. Was soll man nunerwarten? Realistische detailreiche Grafik oder doch nur einen dieser billigen, schlecht kontrollierbaren Funracer, deren es schon zwei oder drei – mindestens! – gibt? X2 ist in der Hinsicht einen Kompromiss eingegangen: Aus Snowboarding ist ein Mix aus comicartiger Darstellung und realistischer Steuerung geworden. Gezeichnete Figuren (etwa wie diese ») hätte ich eigentlich als letztes erwartet, aber gut. Schließlich ist am Ende doch das Feeling und Gameplay entscheidend.

Wer X2 Snowboarding zum ersten Mal spielt, wird durch ein (für den ein oder anderen Ungeduldigen etwas langes) praktisches Tutorial geführt und mit der genauen Steuerung vertraut gemacht. Vernachlässigt werden hierbei nur die Combos. Ein paar wichtige Dinge sollte man sich dabei schnell merken. Zum Beispiel, dass sich der Balken am unteren Bildschirmrand mit so rotem Zeug füllt, wenn Stunts erfolgreich abgeschlossen wurden, sich aber bei Boost Attacken (Button rechts, ganz unten), Zurückspulen und Zeitlupe wieder leert. Leider ist nicht bei allen Icons sofort ersichtlich, was sie bei Berührung bewirken. Am oberen Fortschrittsbalken sind von links nach rechts:

• der Zurückspulen-Knopf: Wenn ihr hier drückt und haltet, fährt eure Figur so lange im Eiltempo rückwärts, bis ihr los lasst oder der rote Balken leer ist. Wie auch immer, die Funktion ist wahnsinnig sinnvoll, um verpasste Gelegenheiten und Abbiegungen wiederzufinden. Use it wisely!
• der Pause-Knopf bringt euch zum Pausemenü und allen Einstellungen.
• der 1/2-mal-so-schnell-Knopf halbiert die Zeit und erlaubt präziseres steuern – verzerrt nebenbei aber noch die Sprüche eures Sportlers. Sicherlich finden einige auch Gefallen daran.

Mit der linken Hand gut erreichbar ist der große Knopf zum Abspringen. Die Figur duckt sich beim drücken und springt erst beim Loslassen ab. Vor Rampen abspringen und auf selbiger zu landen ist nicht nur sinnlos, sondern bringt den Snowboarder auch manchmal zu Fall. Jedenfalls ist dieses blaue runde Ding am wichtigsten für euren Highscore. Jeder Trick und jede Combo wird mit Punkten bewertet und einfach aufaddiert, der Endstand wird euch in einer Tabelle am im Ziel angezeigt, Ist man erst einmal in der Luft, sollte mab die Zeit mit der Zeitlupe verlangsamen und so schnell es geht ein paar coole Tricks “performen”. Auf dem Bildschirm erscheinen rechts und links die Umrisse von Snowboards mit kleinen Händen daran ( – natürlich kann man da drauf tippen!). So hat man ständig die volle Kontrolle über das Verhalten der Figur. Einige dieser Grabs können sie ohne genügend Höhe leicht bröseln. Mit der Zeit kommt man in Übung. Wenn ihr mehr über Snowboardtricks im Detail wissen möchtet, hier ist ein Wikipedia-EIntrag dazu.

Langsam über die präparierte Piste zu schleichen und am unermüdlich zu tricksen bringt einen zwar an den ersten Platz, aber nicht unbedingt in ein neues “Level”. Der Begriff Level stimmt nicht ganz. Es gibt zwar bestimmte Highscores zu knacken, doch so einfach kommt man nicht weiter. Genau genommen sind es Regionen wie Neuseeland, Chile etc., die ihr nur erstürmen könnt, wenn ihr alle goldenen Münzen einsammelt, die auf der Strecke an verschiedenen Orten verteilt sind. Sind die Medaillien weg, erscheinen rote Kreuze. Auch sie bringen tolle Sachen, wie z.B. neue Stlyes fürs Snowboard. Leider bleibt man leicht schon im ersten Event (USA) stecken. Wenn das der Fall ist, lohnt es sich, die Steuerungsoptionen anzusehen. Grundsätzlich kann der Spieler sich zwischen den Neigungssensoren (Kalibrierung jederzeit möglich) und einer Touch-Steuerung entscheiden.

Im Spielmenü sind sechs Titel abwechselnd zu hören, deren Namen werden auch immer rechts eingeblendet. Hier die Liste (iTunes-Links):

Zum Fazit: Mit X2 Snowboard können schnell Stunden vergehen. Auch wenn die Steuerung viel Konzentration abverlangt, ist das Spiel doch für die Mittagspause, den Weg zur Arbeit oder gar am Skilift ideal. Wer allerdings zu hohe Erwartungen an die grafische Umsetzung stellt, kann leicht enttäuscht werden. Zwar rangiert X2 Snowboard generell in der oberen Liga im App Store, doch von der Hardware sind ja keine Wunder zu erwarten. Flüssig läuft es allemal.

Wer sich nicht sofort auf die Vollversion stürzen möchte, sollte erst einmal die kostenlose Trainings-App laden.

Als Erstes greift auf die Ordnerstruktur eures Gerätes zu(Tutorial). Dort geht ihr in das Verzeichnis

etc\apt\sources.list.d

Dann kopiert ihr die “Cydia.list” auf den PC und öffnet sie mit “Editor” oder einem anderen NotePad Programm.

Wenn in der Datei einene Schreibfehler findet verbessert ihn und Kopiert die Datei wieder in den Ordner

etc\apt\sources.list.d

Falls der Fehler danach immer noch existiert habe ich euch mal den ganzen Ordner Hochgeladen Download. In der “Cydia.list” könnt ihr dann noch eure eigenen sources hinzufügen. Das Schema dafür sieht so aus:

Die Kollegen von 9to5mac machen auf Icons und Codezeilen im iPhone-SDK aufmerksam, die auf eine mögliche Videochat-Funktionalität in der nächsten iPhone-Generation hinweisen. Zwei Kamera-Symbole, zum Annehmen und Abbrechen eines Videochats, wurden in der Tiefen der Entwicklungsumgebung gefunden. Teile des Codes zeigen zudem einen Button mit dem Attribut „WidthinitForVideoChatWithFrame“. Eine solche Videochat-Funktionalität würde eine Kamera auf der Vorderseite des iPhones voraussetzen, passend also zur hier erwähnten längeren iPhone-Front.

Mit der neuen App My3G ist es möglich jeglicher am iPhone installierten App eine Wifi Verbindung vorzugaukeln. Damit lässt sich unter anderem das 20MB Downloadlimit im Appstore umgehen oder auch Skype überlisten. My3G ist über den Rockstore erhältlich und kostet 2,79$ kann allerdings kostenlos getestet werden. My3G ist eine Alternative zum bekannten 3G Unrestrictor soll aber wesentlich zuverlässiger laufen. Achtung Fw 3.1.3 wird nicht unterstüzt!

Die Lite Version von iFahrschule besitzt zwar den vollen Funktionsumfang der Vollversion, aber die Prüfungsfragen bis auf die der Mofa-Prüfung sind nicht enthalten.

Die Vollversion ist mit 12,99 € für den AppStore zwar verhältnismäßig teuer angesetzt, wenn man diesen Preis aber mit dem der Fragebögen aus Papier vergleicht, ist es immer noch ein wahres Schnäppchen. Ein weiterer Vorteil gegenüber der konventionellen Fragebögen ist natürlich, dass man um einiges flexibler ist, da man nicht immer die vielen Bögen mit sich schleppen muss, wenn man auch mal spontan außer Haus lernen will. Ein weiteres Pro-Argument zum Pendant Testbogen ist der, dass die App immer aktuell gehalten wird. Zudem sind nicht nur die Prüfungsbögen diverser Fahrzeugklassen in der App integriert, sondern es werden dem Fahranfänger auch noch einige andere interessante Features geboten.

Zum einen ist eine Formelsammlung mit einigen wichtigen Elementen wie z. B. der Bremswegerrechnung oder der jeweiligen erlaubten Anhängerlast enthalten. Zum anderen könnt ihr euch, wenn ihr euch über eure Rechte nicht genau im Klaren seid, jederzeit über die im Hilfe-Menü erreichbare Straßenverkehrsordnung schlau machen.

Test:

Vor dem Starten der App fällt einem erstmal das simple, aber trotzdem gut zur Applikation passende blaue Icon (s.o.) auf. Nachdem die App die relevanten Daten geladen hat, wird einem direkt eine Statistik aufgetan, die die bisherigen Ergebnisse der Lernphase widerspiegelt. Dabei werden die noch ungelesenen bzw. die schon durchgearbeiteten, sowie die falsch und richtig beantworteten Testfragen berücksichtigt. Wenn ihr trotz allem auch mal jemanden anderen an euer iDevice lassen wollt, aber nicht möchtet, dass eure bisherige Statistik verfälscht wird, könnt ihr unter Einstellen den sogenannten Gastmodus aktivieren. Dadurch werden die Ergebnisse bis zum Deaktivieren des Gastmoduses nicht  in der Statistik mitberücksichtigt.

Meiner Meinung ist der Punkt Lernen das Glanzstück dieser App. Einmal gibt es dort das sogenannte Ampelsystem (siehe Screenshot mit dem Fragenkatalog), welches euch beim Abfragen und im Auswahlmenü anzeigt, ob die Fragen schon bearbeitet (gelesen, richtig oder falsch beantwortet) wurden. Zudem ist das Fragen-Auswahlmenü sehr prakikabel gestaltet. Ihr könnt euch entweder alle, alle unbeantworteten, nur die falsch beantworteten, alle falsch und unbeantworteten, alle eigenhändig markierten Fragen oder nur die, bei denen ihr Zahlen eingeben müsst, stellen lassen. Sobald man eine Frage falsch beantwortet hat, sie beim nächsten Mal aber richtig beantwortet, wird sie vom Programm immer noch nicht als korrekt dargestellt. Das kommt davon, dass das Programm die Frage erst als sicher richtig beantwortet anzeigt, wenn der Proband sie drei Mal in Folge richtig löst. Um den Lerneffekt zu verstärken, kann man im Einstellen-Menüpunkt noch das sogenannte Instant Feedback aktivieren. Mit dessen Hilfe wird nach Beantworten einer Frage entweder ein positiver Klingelton bei richtiger Antwort oder ein Grimmiger bei falscher Antwort erklingen. Zudem gibt es noch eine praktische Funktion, die es erlaubt einzelne Fragen via Mail zu verschicken.

Wenn ihr euch in manchen Situationen immer noch nicht sicher seid, ob ihr nun Vorfahrt habt oder nicht, könnt ihr, sofern ihr noch 1,59 € auf eurem iTunes Konto dafür übrig habt, via In-App Purchase als kleines Schmankerl die Vorfahrttrainingsapp iVorfahrt erwerben. Wenn ihr nur den Mofa Fuhrerschein macht oder einfach nur die Vohrfahrtsregeln wiederholen möchtet, ohne die Vollversion von iFahrschule kaufen zu wollen, könnt ihr sie auch noch hier als separate App erwerben, da man iVorfahrt leider nicht in die Lite Version integrieren kann.
Aber Achtung: Wenn ihr iVorfahrt via In-App Purchase gekauft habt, könnt ihr nicht die separate App umsonst herunterladen (umgekehrt geht es leider auch nicht), sondern müsst damit leben, dass ihr sie in der gekauften Form auch nur nutzen könnt!

Kommen wir nun zum Punkt Prüfen. Wenn ihr eine Prüfung startet, habt ihr ab dann 60 Minuten Zeit um alle 30 Aufgaben zu lösen. Wenn ihr die Prüfung beendet habt, wird sie ausgewertet und die Resultate in einem Balkendiagramm dargestellt. Dadurch ist es möglich den Lernfortschritt gut zu erkennen. Wenn ihr jetzt noch die Prüfung samt den Ergebnissen in einer Mail verschicken wollt, ist das auch möglich.

Fazit:

iFahrschule ist wegen der vielen Features und mit der schönen Oberfläche, bei der die Liebe zum Detail stark zum Vorschein kommt, auf jeden Fall einen Kauf selbst für 12,99 € wert. Meiner Meinung nach ist das sogar noch ein günstiger Preis, da iFahrschule mit den 40 € Softwares für den PC mithalten kann und, da es auf einem Handy läuft, bei jeder nervigen Wartezeit zum Lernen rausgeholt werden kann. Zudem sieht man auch in den zahlreichen positiven Rezensionen, dass die Software schon bei vielen geholfen hat. Doch wenn ihr nur den Mofa Führerschein machen wollt, würde ich euch vorerst zur Lite Version von iFahrschule raten, da die Lite Version alle Features mit Ausnahme der vielfältigen Fragenkataloge beinhaltet.

Jobs’ Aussagen betreffend einem “Update der Güteklasse A ” auf die kommende iPhone-Generation lies nicht nur die Fan-Gemeinde sondern auch die Konkurrenten aufhorchen. Apple bläst also zum Totalangriff mit neuen “Killer-Features” wie wohl auch Video-Telefonie bzw. -Chatting.

Wie 9to5mac berichtet finden sich im aktuellen iPhone OS SDK eindeutige Hinweise auf Video-Chatting bzw. iChat in Form von Icons und Textbausteinen im Telefon User Interface.

Video-Telefonie bzw. -Chatting wäre das nächst-logische große Feature, ist Apple doch mit iChat sehr gut im Video-Chat-Segment vertreten. Die gefundenen Hinweise auf eine iSight-Kamera in einer nächsten iPad-Version sowie etwaige iPhone-4G-Bauteilen deuten darauf hin, dass Apple auch mit iPhone, iPod und iPad genau in diese Richtung gehen möchte.

Bereits seit der ersten Generationd des iPhone regen sich einige Menschen darüber auf, dass keine Frontkamera für Videotelefonie oder Video Chats verbaut worden ist.

Nun hat man im aktuellen iPhone 3.2 SDK versteckt in einem Ordner ein paar Icons gefunden, die definitiv auf Video Chats bzw. Videotelefonie in künftigen Modellen des iPhone oder iPad hinweisen dürften. Da man wohl beim iPad in absehbarer Zeit kein Update erwarten darf, liegt die Hoffnung vieler nun in der Vorstellung des nächsten iPhone der vierten Generation. Bereits vor einigen Wochen waren hierzu erste Bericht aufgedaucht, die von der Integration einer Frontkamera gesprochen haben.

Die Indizien für ein neues iPhone mit einer Frontkamera sammeln sich mehr und mehr.

Das Team von 9to5mac, ist auf einen eindeutigen Text-Hinweis im Code des neuen iPhone Simulators gestoßen, welcher eine künftige Videochatfunktion im neuen iPhone ermöglicht. Untermauert wird dieses Fundstück zusätzlich von zwei Icons, welche Kamera Symbole darstellen, wie sie bei iChat zum Annehmen oder Abbrechen eines Videochats beispielsweise verwendet werden können.

Aus weiteren Teilen des Codes, wurde ein Button mit dem Wortlaut “WidthinitForVideoChatWithFrame” gesichtet.

Die Gerüchte über eine zusätzliche Kamera in der neuen iPhone Generationen halten sich weiterhin. Die längere Front sowie das A -Update runden zudem die ganze Sache noch ab.

Bei der Vorstellung des iPads hatte sich Steve Jobs auch dazu geäußert, wann die ersten Geräte verkauft werden können. iPhone und iPod Touch mit alphanumerischen Passwörtern sichern

Einleitung

Moderne Mobilgeräte wie das iPhone oder der iPod Touch eignen sich ideal dafür, zahlreiche persönliche Informationen – wie Adressbuch, Kalender oder E-Mails und diverse Nutzerkonten – in dem Gerät zu hinterlegen. Um sich davor zu schützen, dass Dritte Zugriff auf diese Informationen erhalten, macht es Sinn, iPhone (oder iPod Touch) mit einem Passwort zu versehen.
Wem das standardmäßige vierstellige, numerische Passwort nicht genügend Sicherheitsgefühl vermittelt, kann sich mithilfe des iPhone-Konfigurationsprogramms ein Profil erstellen, dass es erlaubt, ein alphanumerisches Passwort festzulegen.

Wer dies zum Anlass nehmen möchte, sich das iPhone-Konfigurationsprogramm etwas genauer anzusehen, geht entsprechend der nachfolgenden Schritte vor

1) iPhone-Konfigurationsprogramm installieren

Das iPhone-Konfigurationsprogramm findet man in einer Version sowohl für Mac OS X als auch für Windows auf der Apple-Support-Seite für das iPhone unter der Rubrik “Unternehmensfunktionen”:

Die Installation läuft wie gewöhnlich ab.

2) Konfigurationsprofil mit alphanumerischem Passwort erstellen

Nach dem Starten des iPhone-Konfigurationsprogramms wählt man unter Ablage den Punkt Neues Konfigurationsprofil aus. In der Rubrik Allgemein kann man u.a. Profilnamen, -kennung und -beschreibung vergeben.

Als nächsten Schritt wählt man die Rubrik Code aus und aktiviert deren Konfiguration. Schließlich wählt man die Optionen Code-Eingabe auf Gerät erforderlich und Alphanumerische Werte erforderlich aus.

Weitere Einstellungen müssen nicht vorgenommen werden. Wer sich dafür interessiert, sollte es sich aber nicht nehmen lassen, die anderen Optionen durchzusehen.

Durch Klick auf Exportieren lässt sich das selbsterstellte Konfigurationsprofil gegebenenfalls signieren und auf der Festplatte abspeichern.

3) Konfigurationsprofil auf iPhone bzw. iPod Touch aktivieren

Am einfachsten schickt man sich das Profil per E-Mail auf sein iPhone (bzw. iPod Touch) und öffnet dort die Anlage, um das Konfigurationsprofil direkt installieren zu können.

Wie macht man alles wieder rückgängig? Unter Einstellungen, Allgemein, Profil lässt sich das Konfigurationsprofil löschen, so dass man danach wieder ein rein numerisches Passwort vergeben kann.

Im folgenden will ich mir die aktuelle Version 4.0.2 mal genauer ansehen – ich hoffe die Grundfunktionen sind damit im Ansatz überschaubar wenngleich man für die Details schon jetzt nur an die Projektseite verweisen kann.

Die ersten Schritte

Nach einer angenehm einfachen Installation (entpacken und an den Wunschort ziehen) erblickt man im ersten Zuge wohl das Hauptfenster (Editor) – welches zur Konfiguration einzelner Macros dient.

Bevor ich hier weiter einsteigen will folgen aber erst einige Basics um den Grundaufbau besser nachvollziehen zu können.

Keyboard Maestro unterteilt sich im Alltag in 2 Bereiche

Den Editor kennt ihr bereits von obigem Screenshot – die Engine dagegen ist die Basis ohne die kein Macro ausgeführt werden kann. Keyboard Maestro nistet sich nach dem ersten Start direkt in der Menüzeile ein und bietet so direkten Zugriff die Engine und den Editor.

Das Anwendungsbeispiel hat sicherlich keinen großen Tiefgang – sollte aber die grobe Herangehensweise erklären. Obiges Beispiel bedeutet konkret

• gilt nur für Finder.app (via Gruppen-Definition)
• Trigger erfolgt via Tastenkürzel CMD Ü
• Aktion Öffne bestimmten Ordner

Natürlich kann ein Macro aus einer Kombination von diversen Aktionen bestehen – letzlich erinnert die Herangehensweise etwas an Automator Workflows. So könnte man also relativ simpel einen eigenen Autostart mit Growl-notifications etc basteln.

Fazit

Ich habe das Programm selbst erst seit kurzer Zeit im Einsatz – von daher tue ich mich noch schwer es im vollem Umfang zu beurteilen. Der Editor war im ersten Moment etwas irritierend – nach kurzer Verwendung löst sich diese Einstiegshürde aber. Ob man sich nur mit den fertigen Macros zufrieden gibt – sich selbst welche erstellt bzw aufnimmt bleibt einem selbst überlassen und wird wohl auch stark vom eigenen Arbeitsalltag abhängen.

Die Möglichkeiten erscheinen sehr weitreichend – wobei es wohl wie so oft bei Programmen dieser Art etwas Einstiegszeit erfordern wird. Einerseits um die individuellen relevanten Funktionen zu erkennen und andererseits um diese dann mit passenden  (und hirnkompatiblen) Macros abzubilden. Sei es nun inkl. Applescript, Shellscript, Growl-Support oder sonstigem PiPaPo.

Ist diese Hürde mal gemeistert wird man Keyboard Maestro wohl nicht mehr missen wollen. In meinem Fall greife ich bis dato nur auf einige Bereiche zurück – so wird die z.b die Clipboard-Funktion noch komplett ignoriert, der App-Window-Switcher kommt hingegen schon aktiv zum Einsatz.

Das nächste Ziel ist die Definition von Worksets welche ich über die Menubar aufrufe und so gleich meinen Desktop aufräumen und für den nächsten Task vorbereiten kann.

Letzte Woche war doch ziemlich ruhig was neue Gerüchte um iPhone 4G und OS 4.0 betrifft, doch diese Woche war wieder ein wenig besser. iPhone OS 4.0 und iPhone 4G werden noch in diesem Jahr erwartet. Man hofft auf eine Vielzahl einmaliger und toller Features, die Apple mit der neuen Generation rausbringen wird um so weiterhin so gut am Smartphone Markt bestehen zu können. Die Konkurrenz schläft nicht, wie man am Beispiel des neuen HTC Desire aktuell mal wieder [...]

Apples iPad Keynote dauerte zwar knapp eineinhalb Stunden, dennoch schien als hätte Steve Jobs nicht alles gezeigt, hätte vieles überflogen. Mehrere “Sachen” wurden zum Beispiel gar nicht gezeigt bzw. fehlen auf dem iPad komplett: Aktien, Wetter, Rechner und Uhr.

Diese vier Apps sind unter OS X Widgets und gehören normalerweise auch zum Standardrepertoir des iPhone OS. Warum fehlen diese also beim iPad? Es ist ja nicht gerade so, als wäre diese Funktionen nicht wichtig – ganz im Gegenteil.

Und warum hat die optionale iPad-Dock-Tastatur eine “leere” Taste? Jedenfalls bei den Hands-on-Einheiten die Apple nach der Keynote kurzzeitig zur Verfügung stellte? Soll man damit wie auf dem Mac die Widgets aktivieren können?

Reagiert der iPhone-Hersteller auf die “Feature Requests” und integriert das Widget-Framework in das iPhone OS 4.0? Apples Geheimhaltungspolitik ist legendär daher wäre dieses “Verschweigen” nicht abwägig. Und Widgets für das iPhone müssten auch nicht so aussehen wie jene von OS X bzw. für das iPad.

Data Glue: Wird ein Archiv in mehrere Dateien aufgeteilt, dann kann man am Terminal unter anderem mit cat die Dateien zusammenführen. Die Freeware Data Glue bietet für diese Funktion eine grafische Oberfläche.

Wenn es nach den Jungs von BoysGeniusReport ginge, dann käme das Motorola Devour bereits am 25. Februar in den Handel (ausgewählte Händler|USA), über alle anderen Kanäle soll es ab den 15. März verkauft werden. Dieser Termin wird mit einem Flyer von Motorola bewiesen. Wann es dann auch in Europa erhältlich sein wird und ob es auch den Namen “Devour” (zu deutsch: fressen, vertilgen, verschlingen) tragen wird, ist ungewiss, schließlich hatte O₂ den Namen des Motorola Droids hier in Deutschland in Milestone verändert.

Vor ein paar Tagen sahen wir noch das Hollywood-Sternchen Megan Fox in einer Badewanne liegen, das Motorola Devour in der rechten Hand., Auflistung technischer Details leider Fehlanzeige. Nun nimmt Vizepresident für Android Software und MOTOBLUR Services bei Motorola Rick Osterloh die Sache in die Hand und gibt einen kleinen Einblick in das Gerät. Software wie Blur, Google Maps Navigation, Moto Phone Portal und natürlich die Hardware, das seht ihr in Video nach dem Break.

Infos zum Motorola Devour:

Das Devour ist eine abgespeckte und günstigere Droid-Version, größtenteils aus Aluminium und verfügt wie sein großer Bruder ebenfalls über ein Touchscreen und eine seitlich ausschiebbare QWERTZ-Tastatur. Das Smartphone wird aber nicht wie angenommen mit dem Android Betriebssystem 2.0 oder gar mit 2.1, sondern mit der Vorgänger 1.6. Damit fehlt der Support von Multitouch, der beim Android (Milestone) genutzt werden kann und eins der Killer-Features ist, wie es in dem TV-Werbespot hochgelobt wird.

Stompen war die erste Web-App auf Apples Website. Nun kann es mit 309 zusätzlichen über 4 Saisons, insgesamt 412 Puzzles als App gezogen werden. Stompem steht zur Zeit kostenlos im AppStore zum Download zur Verfügung.

Viele Entwickler und Web-Designer schätzen und nutzen den Firefox zur Webentwicklung. Dabei kann der Firefox besonders durch eine Vielzahl von Extension wie dem Firebug zum Debugging überzeugen. Aber auch der Apple Browser Safari kann mit einer Firebug-ähnlichen Funktion aufwarten.

Das Werkzeug mit dem Namen Web Inspector ist seit der Version 3.0 im Safari enthalten. Der Web Inspector muss jedoch zunächst über das Terminal aktiviert werden (warum auch immer). Mit dem folgenden Befehl und einem anschließendem Neustart steht der Web Inspector über das Kontextmenü (rechte Maustaste) unter “Element-Informationen” zur Verfügung:

Webseiten durchleuchten

Mit dem Web Inspector lassen sich wie auch mit Firebig Webseiten analysieren und durchleuchten. Dabei lässt sich der HTML-, CSS- und JavaScript-Code untersuchen, indem man sich durch die DOM-Struktur “hangelt” oder den entsprechenden Bereich der Webseite auswählt.

Lade- und Latenzzeiten sowie die Größenangaben von Dokumenten und Grafiken lassen sich ebenfalls erfassen und detailliert untersuchen.

Wer eine Alternative zum Entwicklen mit dem Firefox sucht, hat mit dem Web Inspector ein entsprechendes Werkzeug im Safari-Browser, welcher auch unter Windows zur Verfügung steht.

Der tiefe Winter in dem wir gerade feststecken macht die Menschen erfinderisch. Wir wussten bereits das sich ein iPhone mit einer handelsüblichen AA Batterie bedienen lässt. Focus Online beweißt, auch eine Wurst leistet als Eingabestift gute Dienste. Durchaus praktisch, die Hände können im Handschuh bleiben und wenn der kleine Hunger kommt dann muss eben die Wurst herhalten. iPhone und Wurst eine kuriose Kombination.

Eigentlich hat inzwischen jedes Handy eine Funktion zum automatischen Anfordern von Sendeberichten für SMS! Das iPhone aber kann das – standardmäßig – jedoch leider nicht! (Man kann zwar per Hand *T# oder *N# vor jede SMS schreiben, aber wenn man das jedes Mal machen muss nervt das ganz schön!)
Doch dank Cydia, MobileSubstrate und zwei netten Franzosen findet man das Paket iPhoneDelivery, welches das iPhone um genau diese Funktion erweitert.

Leider gibt es auch dieses Paket mal wieder nicht in einem Standard-Repository, sondern bei http://iphonedelivery.advinux.com/cydia/.

Nach der Installation wird das SpringBoard neu gestartet und dann hat man in den Einstellungen bei Nachrichten ein paar neue Optionen:

• Bei Sendebericht stellt man den gewünschten Typ des Sendeberichts ein:
  • Kein Sendebericht
  • Textmeldung als Sendebericht
    Hier erhält man eine SMS mit dem Text “Nachricht zugestellt” (siehe Screenshot – dritte SMS von unten)
  • Fullscreen-Bericht
    Hier wird der Sendebericht wie eine sog. Flash-SMS angezeigt, also direkt und bildschirmfüllend.
  • Häkchen vor gesendeter SMS
    Hierbei bekommt man nur das Häkchen vor der gesendeten SMS.
• Bei Häkchen stellt man den Typ des Häkchens vor der SMS ein
  • Bei Dezent wird es nicht angezeigt, sondern man sieht nur durch Tippen auf die Nachricht den Zeitpunkt der Sendebestätigung (so wie im Screenshot bei der vierten SMS von oben)
  • Bei Normal wird das Häkchen vor jeder SMS angezeigt und durch Tippen erhält man ebenfalls den Zeitpunkt (siehe Screenshot)
  • EXTERN zeigt bei mir die selbe Funktion wie Dezent, was genau der Unterschied sein soll konnte ich noch nicht herausfinden.
• Und zu guter Letzt stellt man mit dem letzten neuen Menüpunkt ein, dass Text-Smileys in den SMS als Bildchen angezeigt werden!

Gefunden habe ich dieses nützliche, nette Package zuerst hier, falls ihr das lest, lasst euch nicht kirre machen von den Warnungen, dass dieser Service etwas Kosten würde (das tut er definitiv nicht, Sendeberichte sind eine standardisierte Funktion des GSM-Netzes, die jeder Netzbetreiber implementiert hat!) und auch dass danach EDGE und/oder 3G nicht mehr funktionieren würden konnte ich nicht nachvollziehen (zumindest bei meinem 3GS – 3.1.2)!

PS: Wer sich über die dritte SMS von oben wundert: Indem man einer SMS ein Ausrufezeichen voranstellt wird sie als Flash-SMS gesendet und dann so angezeigt, wie auch der Fullscreen-Sendebericht: Der Bildschirm wird transparent schwarz und die Nachricht darauf angezeigt mit großem grünen OK-Button.

Die heutige kostenlose App-Vollversion Pop – A – Tronic aus dem Hause BBBArcade gibt es heute auch als Spiel für PC und Mac. Bei mir schlug die Installation zwar fehl, aber vielleicht klappt es bei Euch. Der Spielinhalt ist schnell erklärt und leicht zu verstehen:

Sobald die Blubberblasen auf deinem Bildschirm auftauchen, musst du sie aus dem Weg räumen. Wenn 3 oder mehr gleichfarbige Blasen nebeneinander liegen kannst du sie abschießen. Dazu dient ein Fadenkreuz zum Zielen.  Wenn Du Fehler machst,  bleichen sie aus und du musst dir einen anderen Weg ausdenken. Du kannst die Bläschen auch ansaugen und sie an einem anderen Ort wieder abschießen, um größere Kombos zu kreieren. Wie bei solchen Spielen üblich, zählt Schnelligkeit und Geschick, damit Du den Bildschirm komplett leeren kannst. Im weiteren Verlauf des Spiels fallen auch Bomben runter, die Dir helfen, gleich mehr Bläschen wegzusprengen.

Blu ist ein Dektop Twitter Client für Windows Vista & Windows 7 mit einem sehr schönem Design. Der Dienst wurde von Thirteen23 entwickelt, und punktet durch eine stilvolle Aufmachung sowie übersichtliche Handhabung. Ein weiteres praktisches Feature ist, dass man wenn man nicht mehr weiß zu welchem Thema ein bestimmter RT war einfach nur auf den Pfeil neben den Nutzer klicken muss und schon sieht man alle Tweets und RTweetsdie zu dem Thema passen. Außerdem ist Tinyurl im dinst integriert.

Insgesamt wirklich einer der besten Desktop Twitter Clients die ich kenne.

Das Spiel ist interessant gezeichnet, es sieht aus, als habe jemand seine Skizzen direkt als Spielgrafik gespeichert. Davon sollte man sich aber nicht abschrecken lassen, denn das Spiel hat es in sich.

Sind Sie ein geborener Architekt? dann werden Sie viel Freude an dem Spiel haben. DropBrick ist ein physikalisches Puzzle: Man sammelt Lasten und muss dabei eine vorgegebene Höhe und ein bestimmtes Gewicht erreichen und für eine gewisse Zeit die Balance halten.

Das Spiel bietet 70 Level, die man sich aber durch das bestehen der unteren Level nach und nach erarbeiten muss. Also erst, wenn man Aufgaben erfolgreich gelöst hat, kommt man weiter. Von den Spielern wird kritisiert, dass das Spiel zu schwer sei, weil die Waage, auf die die Teilchen herabfallen, kaum kalibrierbar sei. Aber vielleicht sehen das unsere Leser ganz anders? Last week, Apple announced through the iPhone Developer News feed that the iTunes App Store is now supported in 13 additional countries:

"You can now distribute your apps to more customers with the addition of App Store support in Armenia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Jordan, Kenya, Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia, and Uganda."

Unless an app has been set to "sell in new territories," developers will need to update their iTunes Connect preferences before their products will be available in the latest batch of added countries. If your apps already have the "sell in new territories" option checked, you're good to go.

Chillifresh, who first sent TiPb word of their Wobble iBoobs app being removed from the App Store due to what Apple termed its “sexual content” has followed up with another blog post, now claiming 5000 apps have been removed and presenting what they say are the new App Store rules:

1. No images of women in bikinis (Ice skating tights are not OK either)
2. No images of men in bikinis! (I didn’t ask about Ice Skating tights for men)
3. No skin (he seriously said this) (I asked if a Burqa was OK, and the Apple guy got angry)
4. No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs (yes – I am serious, we have to remove the silhouette in this pic)
5. No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex – all banned
6. Nothing that can be sexually arousing!! (I doubt many people could get aroused with the pic above but those puritanical guys at Apple must get off on pretty mundane things to find Wobble “overtly sexual!)
7. No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content (not sure how Playboy is still in the store, but …)

Apple has already commented to TiPb that they took action following customer complaints over objectionable contents, and our readers have been split between “good on Apple, we don’t want to see that in the App Store” and “shame on Apple, we should be able to decide for ourselves” camp.

Apple does present parental controls for the App Store, but they currently lack sophistication enough to handle situations like this. For example, because Apple tags any app that provided unfettered access to the internet as 17 (’cause there’s violence and porn on them there webs), enabling that parental control wouldn’t just kill sexy apps, it would kill any app with an embedded WebView (like all Twitter apps — see Tweetie 1.3 rejection).

This isn’t the first time Apple has removed apps for content first, figured out ways to re-introduce them later either — many developers went through this before, prior to parental controls in iPhone 3.0. (And after, when some nudity briefly slipped into the App Store, only to be promptly removed).

Again, it’s conceivable Apple will provide more granular parental controls in iPhone 4.0, perhaps even create an opt-in “adult-but-not-porn” category. It’s that or Web App-only land.

This is what happens when a company like Apple (or Walmart, or Blockbuster) chooses to curate content in their store — they become divided between serving the “family friendly” vs. “freedom to choose” customer bases, and the developers who get caught in between. (And we sympathize with those developers, who must feel trapped in a giant pit with a blind, startled T-Rex at times like these).

9to5mac continues to rip through the iPhone 3.2 SDK for iPad and has now come across the images above, which show icons for accepting a declining video chat, as well as strings referencing the same.

Of course, we’ve been teased with the possibility of video iChat on the iPhone going back to Kevin Rose in March, 2008, so while we’re ever hopeful our optimism is also ever cautious on this one.

Still, video iChat sure would be a killer bullet point on iPhone 4.0, wouldn’t it?

Folgende lustige, lesenswerte Geschichte soll sich vor kurzem in den USA ereignet haben:

Ich übersetze aus einem LongTweet, den der Protagonist dieser Geschichte (hotrod1964) an SebastienPage, Autor des iPhoneDownloadBlogs, geschrieben hat. Dieser hat das bereits gebloggt und sie wurde auch schon des öfteren retweeted!

Vor zwei Wochen oder so ging ich in den Apple Store bei mir in der Nähe. Einfach nur, weil ich in der Gegend war und eine Stunde Zeit totzuschlagen hatte. Da wollte ich halt ein wenig rumstöbern. Im Apple Store war gerade wenig los und sofort als ich hineinkam fragte mich ein Verkäufer, ob ich Hilfe bräuchte. Ich sagte aber: “Nee, ich seh’ mich nur um!” Ungeachtet dessen begann er mich auszufragen, was für einen Computer ich hätte, was für ein Handy, usw. Ich sagte ihm: “Ich habe kein iPhone” und auf seine Frage, warum nicht antwortete ich ihm, dass ich Apples Haltung nicht unterstütze, ehrliche Käufer nicht mit ihrem Gerät machen zu lassen, was sie wollen, sondern sie “in Handschellen zu legen”. Er hörte nicht auf, mir zu erzählen auf was ich alles verzichten würde und dann sagte ich ihm, dass ich mit meinem neuen Android-Smartphone sehr glücklich bin. Glücklicher als mit meinem iTouch, sogar.

Der iPod Touch interessiert den Verkäufer natürlich: “Oh, also haben Sie einen iPod Touch, ja?”, fragte er, was ich bejahte, ihn aus der Tasche zog, die Tasche öffnete und den Home-Button drückte. Er sah meinen Lockscreen, auf dem das Grateful Dead-Theme und ein paar andere Goodies zu sehen waren. Er trat einen Schritt zurück und seine Augen wurden groß! Er fragte, ob er sich das einmal ansehen dürfte. Ich würde ihn ihm natürlich nicht geben, aber ich dachte mir: Zur Hölle, es ist mein Gerät, also stellt euch nicht an. Ich entriegelte und spätestens dann wusste der Verkäufer, dass mein iPod Touch gejailbreakt ist. Er wurde daraufhin sehr still, sagte nur “Wow” und ging weg.

Kurz darauf kam der Manager des Stores zu mir und fraget: “Man hat mir berichtet, dass Sie einen illegalen iPod Touch besitzen!” - ”Ich habe einen iPod Touch, aber dieser ist nicht illegalen.”, antwortete ich.
“Ist er  ‘modifiziert’?”, fragte daraufhin der Manager, worauf ich (glücklich, möchte ich hinzufügen) antwortete: “Ja, er ist modifiziert und das sollten Sie auch unbedingt ausprobieren, denn Sie wissen gar nicht, was sie verpassen!”
Der Manager erwiderte: “Sir, das ist ein gesetzeswidriges Gerät!” – “Sie spinnen, das ist mein Gerät und ich habe es bezahlt! Ich besitze es und kann damit verdammt noch mal machen was ich will!” – “Sir, das Gerät, dass sie besitzen, ist illegal und ich muss sie jetzt bitten mir dieses verbotene Gerät auf der Stelle auszuhändigen!”
Ich erwiderte: “Mein Freund, Sie spinnen!  Mein iPod Touch ist nicht illegal und wenn Sie glauben, ich würde ihn Ihnen jetzt geben, dann sage ich Ihnen, dass ich eine Brücke in der Sahara besitze, die ich Ihnen gerne verkaufen würde!”
“Sir, wenn Sie sich weigern, mit ihr unerlaubtes Gerät zu übergeben brauche ich eine Kopie Ihres Führerscheins.”
“Kumpel, Sie spinnen wirklich! Sie werden mein Gerät nicht bekommen und Sie haben kein Recht, meinen Führerschein zu sehen.” – Daraufhin sagte der Manager, er bekommt jetzt entweder das Gerät oder meinen Führerschein oder er ruft den Sicherheitsdienst. Da dachte ich mir: “Oh mein Gott, die Mall Police (also den Sicherheitsdienst des Einkaufszentrums) ” und sagte: “Ok, machen Sie nur, ich mach es mir gemütlich und warte.”

Doch statt der Mall Police kam die richtige Polizei, sprach erst mit dem Manager und kam dann zu mir. Ich sagte ihnen, dass ich keinerlei Gesetze breche und dass niemand meinen iPod Touch bekommt, falls mich nicht ein Gericht dazu zwingt ihn abzugeben. Ich gab ihnen meinen Ausweis und sagte: “Bringen Sie mich vors Gericht! Falls nicht, lassen Sie mich in Ruhe oder ich werde Apple verklagen und ich werde Sie verklagen, denn nur weil Sie eine Polizeimarke haben, haben Sie nicht das Recht mich aufzuhalten oder mich zu zwingen, meine persönlichen Besitztümer abzugeben, solange Sie mir nicht sagen können, welches Gesetz ich damit breche!” Die Polizisten gehen wieder zum Manager, redeten mit ihm, kamen wieder zurück und sagten: “Entschuldigen Sie die Unannehmlichkeiten, haben Sie noch einen schönen Tag.” Ich ging nach Hause.

Seinen Bericht schließt hotrod1964 damit, dass er schon öfters gesehen hat, wie andere so etwas berichtet haben und er wollte nur sicher gehen, dass das jeder mitkriegt! Niemand soll sich dazu drängen lassen, sein gejailbreaktes Gerät abzugeben! Manche Leute lassen sich ja von Autoritäten einschüchtern und geben ihr Gerät dann aus Angst ab, tut das nicht! Fragt sie, welche Gesetze ihr zur Hölle damit brechen sollt und dass sie euch entweder einsperren sollen oder sie sollen sich zum Teufel scheren.

Man kann jetzt natürlich drüber streiten, ob das wahr ist/wahr sein kann, aber lustig zu lesen ist es allemal.

Nokia asked the ITC to look at Apple! Nokia filed suit against Apple, trying to prevent all iPhone imports! Apple filed a counter-suit! The ITC has now consented to investigate Nokia too, potentially banning the imports of their handsets into America.

That’s not really surprising, and is the logical next step in the Apple/Nokia throwdown. Now the ITC (International Trade Commission) is investigating both sides. Since they’re both pushing the issue on separate patent violations, I wonder if the ITC could find against both of them, and neither would make it to market?

The investigation is expected to take up to 15 months.

Diese Art der Positionsbestimmung ist für eine genaue Navigation im Freien keinesfalls ausreichend.

This information comes from iSuppli, as reported by AllThingsDigital, who are predicting 33 million iPhones shipped in 2010, with an average 35.2 gigabytes of NAND. Once you iPods and the iPad to that, it’s a substantial drain on the market. While Apple have lined up all their supplies in advance, this sort of squeeze can lead to difficulties for other manufacturers.

Seeing as Apple announces a new flash device at least every year, you think manufacturers would start accounting for the extra squeeze by now.

9to5Mac have been scouring through the iPhone 3.2 SDK and have found what appears to be an indication that video chat might be coming to the iPad and/or the iPhone. Of course, the iPad as we know it doesn’t have a video cam and the iPhone doesn’t have a front facing camera. Opera Mini ist seit dem 10. Februar für das iPhone im Gespräch, ob es tatsächlich im App Store erscheinen wird, weiß nur Apple. Doch bei dem ganzen Trubel um den Webbrowser auf den iProdukten vergaß man, die anderen Smartphones im Auge zu behalten. So zeigt Opera-Analyst Phillip Gronvold in einem Video-Interview Opera Mobile 10 auf einem Nexus One und der Umgang der Software mit den Fingerberührungen.

Das Online-Portal Mobilcrunch.com veröffentlichte ein Interview mit dem Opera-Analysten Phillip Gronvold, der erstmals den Webbrowser auf einem Smartphone präsentierte. Hierzu wird das Google Smartphone “Nexus One” unter Android 2.1 genutzt, das bekanntlich mit einem Touchscreen ausgeliefert wird, sprich Opera Mobile wird nun auch mit Touchscreens fertig. Multitouch, das seit dem Firmware Update auch auf dem Nexus One funktioniert, wird bei diesem Webbrowser nicht unterstützt.
Opera Mobile funktioniert aber auch mit tastengesteuerte Handys, ist also für beide Gerätetypen optimiert. Das Interface wurde komplett vom kleinen Bruder, dem Opera Mini, übernommen, lediglich ein wenig aufpoliert.

Opera Mobile 10 wird man aber leider nicht im Android Market finden, lediglich auf neuen Smartphones wird man den Webbrowser vorinstalliert finden.

Neben Tabbed Browsing ist das Speed Dial besonders schön gelungen. Auf einer leeren Seite findet man somit kleine Fenster, sogenannte Tabs, die mit einem Fingertipp automatisch geöffnet werden. Zudem findet man in der Download-Version die typische Komprimierungstechnik Opera Mobile, das wir bereits von der Desktop Version und von Opera Mobile 9.7 auf Windows Mobile Betriebssystemen kennen, sodass ein bis zu zweimal schnellerer Webseitenaufbau erzielt werden kann.

Das letzte Update der TouchFans App ist ja schon länger her.

Inzwischen haben wir die Möglichkeiten, das ganze aufwändiger zu gestalten und die App in den AppStore zu bringen.

Kaum ein anderer Firmenchef ist derzeit so populär: Apples CEO Steve Jobs erhält eine weitere international anerkannte Auszeichnung. Diesmal erhält Jobs den so genannten “Celebration Honor”-Preis. Verliehen wird die Auszeichnung durch die Jim Henson Company. Der Titel geht an Personen die laut Jim Henson “die Welt zu einem besseren Ort machen”, wobei dies jedes Jahr aufs Neue recht unterschiedlich ausgelegt wird.

Nach Angaben in einer aktuellen Pressemitteilung der Organisation erhält Steve Jobs den Preis vor allem deshalb, weil er mit bestehenden Technologien neue Wege beschritten hat. Er vermochte es Technik einen spielerischen sowie selbsterklärenden Charakter zu verpassen und sie so leichter nutzbar zu machen. Der durch Apple eingeschlagene Weg ermöglicht es auch ganz neuen Zielgruppen mit der neusten Technik klar zu kommen ohne dafür technisch versiert sein zu müssen.

Dies hatte bei der Fragestellung, wer die Auszeichnung nun verdient hat offenbar ein sehr hohes Gewicht und so kommt Steve Jobs in den kleinen Kreis der Personen die bislang mit dem Preis “Celebration Honor” ausgezeichnet wurden.

Zuletzt wurde Jobs erst im Rahmen des Mobile World Congress geehrt. Hier wurde von der Mehrheit zum “Branchenkopf des Jahres” bestimmt.

The app calculates the basic formula of
quantum mechanics, the one-
dimensional Schrödinger equation for a
set of predefined potentials or a self-
defined potential.

The main page contains fields/lists for

setting the size of the box of the      
system by setting x_min and x_max
setting the step size dt for the time      
evolution, smaller values give more      
accurate results
    picking a potential. Choosing user      
defined you can write an expression      
in the field "potential" (like x^2).
     The parser is relatively simple.
     It unses "x" as variable,
     " -*/^", brackets "()" and the
     functions sin,cos,tan,exp,log,step
     (step(x)=1 for x>=0, otherwise 0),
     and abs (absolute value).

With "turn" you reach the plotting  window. 
The plot shows real (blue) and  imaginary
(red) part of the wave  function, the right
y-axis shows the  values for the wave
functions. The  potential is plotted in black
(values  correspond to left y-axis). The
white  line depicts the energy of the state.
Following controls exist:
    
  With "width" and "position" you can
     define the width and position of the
     initial Gaussian wavefunction. By
     pressing "Init Function" the wave
function is initialized.
   Pressing "Plot" starts the plotting of
     the time evolution of the wave
     function. With "Stop" you interrupt
     the calculation.
   Choosing "real" or "imaginary" you
     can pick the evolution of the wave
     function in real or imaginary time.
     In imaginary time the solution will
     relax to the static ground state.
     Using real time you see the
     oscillation of the wave function with
    time. The stability of the real-time
     behavior can depend on the size
     of the chosen time step. Note that
     especially for narrow potentials the
     real-time solution can become
     unstable (and obviously incorrect)
     at this stage of the app development.
   You can plot the "groundstate" or      
first "excited state". When picking
     the excited state, the ground state
     will change colors to orange and
     purple.
   With "Turn" you will reach again the
     main page.

Physics to Go! Part 1

Nachdem Microsoft sein neues mobiles Betriebssystem, die Windows Phone 7 Series, vorgestellt hat und vor allem die Integration von Zune und Xbox Live angekündigt hat, war ich zunächst positiv überrascht. Auch wenn Windows Phone 7 etwas spät kommt und es wohl auch noch ein paar Monate dauern wird, bis erste Smartphones mit dem neuen OS auf den Markt kommen, so besitzt es doch einiges an Potential.

Dieses Potential könnte jedoch durch einen Faktor erheblich eingeschränkt werden, den Microsoft und viele andere derzeit noch als trivial ansehen: die Unterstützung bzw. Integration von Mac OS X.

Während die Windows Phone 7 Serie perfekt in Xbox Live oder den Zune Market integriert ist, ist eine Integration in Mac OS X de facto überhaupt nicht vorhanden. Man könnte nun sagen, dass dies auch ganz logisch ist, da Apple ja mit unter der größte Konkurrent von Microsoft ist. So sollte man dies jedoch nicht sehen, vor allem wenn man darüber nachdenkt, für wen potentielle Features von Windows Phone 7 interessant sind: nämlich für junge und Social Networking affine Menschen, die immer häufiger zu einem Mac, anstatt zu einem PC greifen. Bereits vor einigen Monaten belegten zahlreiche Studien, dass etwa an Collges und Universitäten in den USA normale Windows PCs und Notebooks schon längst von Macbooks und Co. verdrängt wurden.

Windows wird weiterhin Marktführer bleiben und daran wird sich in naher Zukunft auch nichts ändern. Dennoch wächst der Marktanteil von Apple und Mac OS X stetig und vor allem rapide an, ein Umstand den Microsoft nicht vernachlässigen sollte.

Gerade frisch ausgepackt liegt der LaCie CooKey vor mir; ein 4 GB USB Stick im Schlüsseldesign. Das Design stammt von 5.5 Designers. Eigentlich kann man zu dem Stick gar nicht so viel sagen. Das Aussehen ist einem normalen Schlüssel sehr ähnlich, weshalb er am Schlüsselbund sehr unauffällig ist. Die Verarbeitung des Metallgehäuses ist sehr gut und hochwertig. Im Aja System Benchmark schafft der Stick ordentliche 22 MB/s Lese- und 7 MB/s Schreibgeschwindigkeit. Er kommt aber leider nicht an die versprochenen 30 MB/s heran.

Zusätzlich zum Stickspeicher bekommt man noch 4 GB Onlinespeicherplatz von Wuala dazu, den man zwei Jahre kostenlos nutzen kann. Einen Überblick der Wuala Funktionen bekommt man in diesem Video.

In Anlehnung an das Design hätte ich mir Funktionen wie Hardwareverschlüsselung oder das Benutzen des Stick als Passwort-Ersatz für den Rechner gewünscht. Wären zwei coole Gimmicks gewesen.

Zu Kaufen gibt es den Stick in vier weiteren Schlüsseldesigns sowie jeweils Varianten mit 4, 8, 16 und 32 GB Speicherplatz ab knapp 20 € direkt bei Lacie oder auch bei Amazon.

Die Diskussion um die Überflüssigkeit von Plug – Ins aufgrund von HTML5 hält weiter an.

Vor einigen Tagen berichteten wir, über den Streit zwischen Apple und Adobe bezogen auf die Zukunft von Flash.

Google schließt sich bezüglich des eigens entwickelten Gears – Plug- In den Vorstellungen von Apple an und will sich nun mehr auf die Entwicklung von HTML5 und Webstandards konzentrieren. Mit der Hilfe des Gears Plug-In, ermöglicht unter anderem das Abrufen von Seiten wie Google Mail und Google Docs im Offline – Modus. Neben dieser Möglichkeit lokale Dateien speichern zu können, kann auch die aktuelle Position des Computers mit Hilfe der sogenannten ” Geolocation ” bestimmt werden.

Diese Features werden laut Google auch mit modernen Web – Technologien funktionieren, so dass ein extra Plug-In nicht mehr von Nöten sein wird. Demnach werden neue Funktionen in Gears vergeblich erwartet. Dies äußerte Google zudem im Gears API Blog :

“If you’ve wondered why there haven’t been many Gears releases or posts on the Gears blog lately, it’s because we’ve shifted our effort towards bringing all of the Gears capabilities into web standards like HTML5. We’re not there yet, but we are getting closer. In January we shipped a new version of Google Chrome that natively supports a Database API similar to the Gears database API, workers (both local and shared, equivalent to workers and cross-origin wokers in Gears), and also new APIs like Local Storage and Web Sockets. Other facets of Gears, such as the LocalServer API and Geolocation, are also represented by similar APIs in new standards and will be included in Google Chrome shortly.”

Demnach ist weiterhin festzustellen, dass Gears von Safari unter Snow Leopard nicht unterstützt wird. Um Gears trotzdem unter Snow Leopard nutzen zu können mussten bisher kleinere Änderungen vorgenommen werden.

Bislang unterstützen Firefox 3.6 und der Internetexplorer noch Gears. Ist die letze Web-Anwendung von Gears jedoch auch auf Web-Standards umgestiegen, ist eine Unterstützung auch hier nicht mehr gegeben.

Die Weiterentwicklung von Web – Technologien fällt unter den Aufgabenbereich der WHATWG und der W3C. Google ist Mitglied der WHATWG und arbeitet bereits an der “WebKit-Rendering-Engine”.

WebKit weiterentwickelte Abspaltung der HTML-Engine KHTML und der JavaScript-Implementation KJS, die die Grundlage für den Mac-OS-X-Webbrowser Safari bildet. Demnach wird die Zusammenarbeit von Apple und Google zumindest auf diesem Interessengebiet weitergehen.

If you're ready to buy that Wi-Fi iPad, then get your credit card out of your wallet and start practicing your fastest clicking and typing techniques. According to a rumor on iPad / iPhone site AppAdvice, a "reliable source" has told them that Apple will begin pre-sales of the Wi-Fi iPad as soon as Thursday, February 25.

As noted on 9 to 5 Mac, Apple traditionally begins selling new products like iPhones or iPods on Fridays. The closest Friday that is approximately 60 days after the iPad announcement on January 27th is March 26th, 2010. If Apple decides to take pre-sale orders of the device online for express delivery on March 26th, they would probably do this about a month in advance in order to better judge the demand for the product.

The iPad must pass muster with the FCC before it can be offered for sale in the U.S., so if this rumor is true we'd expect to see the device approval sometime in the next week. The 3G model, which will be offered about a month after the Wi-Fi version, will require separate approval due to the inclusion of a cellular modem in the device.

Facebook, ungelogen wohl einer der größten Social Network Dienste im Internet, mit einer Mitgliederzahl von derzeit 400 Millionen, Tendenz steigend, ist auch einer der größten Foto Sharing Dienste im Web! Auch die Anzahl verschiedener Facebook Apps und Erweiterungen für den Social Media Dienst für das iPhone nehmen stetig zu.

Eine neue Anwendung die sich nun anschickt, das Fotochaos auf Facebook vom iPhone aus ordnen zu wollen, ist die App Facebook Photo Organizer. Die Anwendung kostet nur 0,79 Cent und versucht, die eher rudimentären Foto-Fähigkeiten der bekannten Facebook App weiter aufzubohren!

Eines gleich mal vorne weg. Bitte nicht zuviel erwarten. Die Anwendung scheint sich im Moment eher in einem frühen Beta-Stadium zu befinden. Umso befremdlicher, dass Apple dieses Programm jetzt schon in den App Store reingelassen hat. Abstürze des Programmes scheinen weniger die Ausnahme, als eher die Regel zu sein. Auch die Benutzung der App ist weit von dem Begriff Intuitiv entfernt. Der Startscreen der App zeigt nach erfolgreicher Verknüpfung mit dem eigenen Facebook-Account einen dreigeteilten Bildschirm mit den eigenen Bildern, die sich auf den Facebook Server befinden, den Kontakten, sowie einem Button namens Downloads. Die vom Entwickler angegebenen Möglichkeiten der Applikation sind vielfältiger Natur. Download und Möglichkeit zum Durchsuchen eigener Facebook-Fotos, Fotos von Freunden durchsuchen, Alben anlegen, mehrere Bilder gleichzeitig hochladen, Organisieren der Fotos nach Datum und Hinzufügen von Kommentaren sind nur einige der angegeben Möglichkeiten.

Gerade das Hochladen von Bildern auf den eigenen Facebook-Account erwies sich bei meinem Test trotz einer Hilfeseite eher als schwierig. So sind doch einige Menüpunkte zum agieren von vornherein nicht zu erkennen. Beim Versuch Bilder hochzuladen, erschien zunächst einfach der iPhone Bildschirm schwarz, erst nach einem Tippen auf den schwarzen Bildschirm zeigte sich dann am oberen Ende ein weiteres Menü. Vom schlechten Deutsch wollen wir hier mal gar nicht reden, denn dass ein Verlassen dieser Seite mit “Ausfahrt” betitelt wird, sagt eigentlich schon alles aus.

Fazit: Die Entwickler müssen hier dringend nachbessern. Dies geht schon bei der Beschreibung der App im iTunes Store los und zieht sich mit schlechtem Deutsch durch die gesamte Anwendung. Ebenfalls muss die UI für den User besser und klar ersichtlicher gestaltet werden.

Hinweise darauf wurden im TelefonyUI-Framework und im TelefonyUI-Quelltext gefunden.
Die Video-Telefonie wäre ein weiteres Killer-Feature von Apple, da Apple mit iChat schon sehr stark im Video-Telefonie/Chatting Segment.

Seit ein paar Monaten gibt es auch eine Kostenlose Google-Web-App im Appstore. Diese ist sehr nützlich, da mal über die App auch direkt andere Dienste wie Google-Mail, Kalender… aufrufen kann. Gestern kam das Update auf Version “0.4.5.3281″. In dem Update wurden kleiner Bugs behoben und die “Search by Voice”-Suche für den iTouch 2G hinzugefügt.

Opera Portal ist relativ neuer Dienst von Opera, der bei den Snapshots der 10.5er Version auf dem Home-Button liegt. Aber natürlich ist der Dienst auch in jedem anderen Browser aufrufbar.

Die Webseite fasst allerlei News und Social-Networks zusammen. So kann ich mir aktuelle Tweets und Facebook-Status-Meldung anzeigen lassen und natürlich auch posten.

Die Sache hat ein wenig was von Socialite (Eventbox) direkt im Netz. Im Moment noch ne Beta (ich kann noch keine Feed importieren), aber schon recht praktisch.
